FSU Competes at 2011 Gator Collegiate Shoot-Out

The Webber International University men bowlers win the 2011 Gator Collegiate Shoot-out, hosted by the University of Florida. WIU led qualifing by more than 600 pins. The Warriors, the # 1 seed, won the title defeating the #2 seed Florida State Seminoles in the finals.

The Webber Warrior Women bowlers led qualifying at the 2011 Gator Collegiate Shoot-out this past weekend at AMF Alley Katz. The # 1 seed Warriors faced the # 4 seed Bethune Cookman, losing 2-1 (211-155, 151-200, 173-178) in the semi-finals. #4 Bethune Cookman went on to win the championship in the title match over the host # 3 University of Florida Gators who defeated the #2 seed Florida State Seminoles.


FSU dominates at Central Florida Classic

After six team games and 10-two game Baker matches, the Webber men qualified first for the bracket finals with 10,871. The Florida State University men claimed the second seed with 9,922. The Webber and FSU JV teams qualified third and fourth with 9,459 and 9,307 respectively but due to a rule change they were not allowed to compete in the varsity bracket. They were thus seeded first and second in the JV bracket.

In the semifinals of the varsity bracket, Webber faced FAU while UCF faced FSU. The format for the semifinal and final matches were best-of-three Baker matches. The winners of the semifinal matches moved on to the finals while the losers were eliminated.

Webber advanced in the first semifinal match over FAU shooting 209-115 and 204-192. UCF fell to FSU in a three game match in the second semifinal; 128-211, 171-150, and 128-147. In the varsity finals, Webber beat FSU shooting 190-176 and 204-146 to claim the title.

In the JV bracket, the Webber men had a bye in the first semifinal match since there were only three teams in the bracket. The UF JV faced the FSU JV in the second semifinal. FSU advanced easily shooting 139-119 and 190-149.

FSU faced top seeded Webber in the JV final. The match went to three games with the Warriors ultimately falling to the Seminoles 201-148, 181-205 and 158-200.

On the women’s side, the Webber ladies easily earned the top seed for bracket play with a 9,805 total. The FSU varsity women earned the second seed with 9,066. UF claimed third with 8,573. The FSU JV team earned fourth with 7,981. (Note: since there were only four teams in the women’s division, the FSU JV team was allowed to compete in the varsity bracket as there were not enough teams competing to award tournament points.)

For the bracket, top seeded Webber faced FSU JV in the first semifinal match while FSU faced UF in the second semifinal match. Webber defeated the FSU JV women after losing the first game of the match. FSU won the first game easily shooting 225-192. But, the Webber women came back shooting 198-145 and 245-141 to advance to the finals.

In the second semifinal match, UF took the first game 193-178. The FSU women fought back to take game two 195-183 and force a third game. FSU dominated game three to win the match 199-146 and move on to the finals.

Excitement was flowing in the final match as Webber took the first game against FSU 219-138. However, the Lady Noles weren’t going down easily and took the second game 207-178. The match went to the last game. FSU struck out in the tenth frame for 180. Webber could have won with six or more on the final shot. But, only five pins were knocked down giving Webber 180 and forcing a fourth game roll-off. The FSU women were in to win shooting 206 to easily take the win from Webber who shot 162.

The All-Tournament Team for the men was Miguel Diaz and Marcelo Suartz of Webber, Ryan Kokrda and Joe Merry of FSU. The Tournament MVP for the men was Brandon Hott of Webber who also shot the only 300 game of the tournament.

The women’s All-Tournament Team was Sara Kienzle of UF and Miranda Magalee, Pauline Harris and Corinne Kelley of FSU. Tournament MVP for the ladies was Rachel Sather of FSU.
