Now’s your chance. We’ve invited some of the most dynamic and award-winning members of the FSU faculty to talk about the topics that excite them. Each presentation and Q&A session will last about 50 minutes and will take place in the Oglesby Union. Come meet the teachers who are inspiring our students. It will make you want to come back to school.

Planetarium Tour & Movie
Planetarium Building, Pat Thomas Planetarium - 12:00pm; 1:00pm; 2:00pm & 3:00pm

Take a tour of the cosmos with astrophysicist Dr. Stacy Palen. The show begins here on Earth, and then shifts to the most distant reaches of the Universe, as revealed by WMAP. As we travel forward in time to the Solar System, NASA’s great observatories reveal the more local Universe, in all its astonishing beauty. This leisurely cruise through space and time is sure to please! Contains elements of many state astronomy core curriculum requirements, including characteristics of the planets, the life cycle of stars, and the size and contents of the Universe.

The Pat Thomas Planetarium first opened its doors in 1982, and has been serving the university and the community ever since. The equipment consists of a Spitz 512 star field (which can project the planets, constellations, and thousands of stars) and over 100 various projectors, including a coordinate system, ecliptic and various slide and video projectors. We use the planetarium not only as a teaching aid in astronomy and physics courses, but also as part of community outreach; every year, school children of all ages come to enjoy our shows.
