What is SOAR?

The Student Organization Advisory Roundtable (SOAR) was established during the 1990s as a representative council for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). At that time, each organization would present a SOAR representative and from those "applicants" a board of 22 (two representatives from organizations in each of the ten categories and two faculty/staff representatives) was selected. Eventually this version of SOAR was discontinued. During the 2005-2006 academic year, the current SOAR Board was established as the Student Organization Advisory and Review Board. SOAR now consists of representatives from all types of student organizations, and students must submit an application packet in order to be considered for membership.

While the selection process and name of the organization has changed, SOAR still serves as the primary student voice in the Student Activities Center (SAC). The board continues to serve, primarily, as a liaison between student organizations and the SAC, as well as serve as a valuable resource for all groups on campus by providing programs and activities that support student organizations and their leadership.

Today, SOAR members represent the SAC in a variety of situations and settings. During the 2005-2006 academic year, the organization will contribute an estimated 300 hours in public service for the university. In return, the SAC seeks to cultivate and refine the skills and abilities of these top students. In the 2006-2007 school year SOAR plans on continuing its efforts to develop better leadership among the RSOs.

Responsibilities
SOAR works with the Student Activities Center to enhance the services offered to registered student organizations and assist in identifying the needs of student organizations. The board will also review policy and procedures, including the registration and re-registration process of groups on campus. Through active participation in programs and suggesting/promoting procedures, SOAR will coordinate cooperative efforts with other university departments and events. The board also exists as a valuable resource for all groups on campus by serving as a support network for all student organizations and their leadership.

Liaison Functions
SOAR will provide feedback and offers suggestions to the Student Activities Center regarding leadership programs, organizational procedures, problem areas, and much more.

The Seminole Experience
SOAR will provide leadership in staffing, promoting, and managing all large scale student organization fairs including, but not limited to the Student Involvement Fair during Seminole Sensation Week, and Market Wednesdays.

Annual President's Mixer
Each semester SOAR will sponsor a mixer for all student organization presidents. The annual mixer will serve as an opportunity for student organization presidents to network and share ideas as well as be made aware of SAC activities and/or changes.
